Good day,

I am new here with PI and trying to mask out terrestrial objects in wide a field image.
what I am should like to archive is sharp star field, and then combine it with a sharp landscape.

Any hint about how to do it?

thanks and best regards
Marco

Hi,
I am not sure it has the right answer for you , but maybe worth a look at this tutorial separating and masking the background and the sky.

Hi Good day,
Thanks for the input, I am aware of the tutorial you link to, this is about a single image, I have tried to follow it but it does give good results in my case.

I am trying in this sample with a stacked set of images, were the terrestrial object is 'fuzzy' and I am trying to replace the fuzzy part with the part of a single shoot image.
I have attached those two images. (I am not sure they will show up) for clarification.

In another forum it was suggested to use Gimp to mask and merge the two images.
Is PI not capable to do it?

best regards
Marco

Hola Alejando, buenos dia.

Gracias por tu respuesta :)

Please find here the link to the two images to give them a try:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6oGP3erdtizbWo1VVpIY0JkUEU/view?usp=sharing

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6oGP3erdtizbHJfTEE2UFp3WkE/view?usp=sharing

I did manage after much tribulation with Gimp to merge the two images,
Attached the result.

Please note that there is not much to see in those two images, this is just a try out to find a procedure/technique to process wide field images that includes star field like the milkway and terrestrial objects.

Un saluto

Marco
