Hot Pixel Removal
« on: 2015 February 10 06:59:05 »
I find that even after calibrating with fresh dark/bias frames I still have some pinpoints left - hot pixels. How can I get rid of them? In Maxim there is a Hot Pixel Removal tool. I would hate to leave PixInsight during processing, just to use Maxim to remove the Hot Pixels.

If you Google SDAA AISIG Pixinsight Image integration there is a pretty good Youtube about 1.25 hours long, that explains hot pixel removal using Cosmetic Correction. Fast forward till he starts talking, lots of dead time at first.

The tool you look for is CosmeticCorrection

Note that if you do dithering (make a small random move between images), any remaining hot/dead pixel will usually be rejected during integration.   Cleaning with CosmeticCorrection is still a good practice IMHO. Be sure that you just remove only the clearly hot/dead pixel (do not over do it).

I realized this this morning when I went to process the images and saw the Cosmetic Correction check-box on the BatchPreProcessing script. I had completely forgotten about it from the first set of tutorials...

Thanks for your quick replies...
