DynamicAlignment Suggestion
« on: 2008 August 05 10:06:20 »
PixInsight Team,

While aligning numerous images, I have found that it is very time consuming to double check that the alignment boxes are at the correct locations for each image sequence, especially when working with a dense star-field.  After setting up the initial "samples" and saving them as a process icon, I open the remaining images one at a time to be registered to the BASE image.  I do this by double-clicking the process icon I saved earlier.  What I've found is in dense star fields, there is always at least one box that gets misplaced in the new image to be aligned.  This obviously results in a bogus alignment if not caught.  It is also too time consuming to look at every sample point when you have numerous images to align.  It would be nice if DynamicAlignment had a button that one could click to check the accuracy of all the sample point alignments.   If a default threshold is not met (e.g. an error of 1.0 pixel or greater), it would display the offending sample point(s).  By double-clicking on an item in the offending sample point list, it would take you directly to the offending point in the images.  The BASE image and image to be registered would be zoomed to the offending sample point location for quick adjustment.  This would be an awesome improvement and a big time saver.

Thanks,

Wade

DynamicAlignment Suggestion

Hi Wade,

Yes, this is indeed very necessary. The DynamicAlignment interface should have a "diagnostics" mode to implement what you have described, among many other enhancements.

Thank you for your suggestion; this is definitely in the TODO list.
