Process windows become unuseable
« on: 2014 November 08 14:19:36 »
Hi
I'm running PixInsight under Linux Mint 17KDE. I've been having a problem with process windows that have expand/contract sections. Having expanded a section I get 2 title bars for that process, the lower one of which is the only one that responds to commands. I cannot contract the expanded section and the bottom tool bar has gone out the bottom of my screen. I cannot move the process window vertically so cannot get at the bottom toolbar to apply the process
I've attached a typical screen shot

Not all expandable sections refuse to contract again. In addition even if I close all instances of that process and open it again from the process explorer it appears in its incorrect and unusable form. Only by closing PixInsight and restarting it can I use that process again.
This effectively makes PixInsight unusable under my Linux system.

I've managed to produce a screenshot video of the behaviour. Note the multiple title bars that the process window winds up having, only one of which is active as my hovering the mouse over demonstrates. I also demonstrate that closing the window and reopening it does not help, and on occasion makes it worse. Hope this helps in diagnosis

Hi Tim,

I've never seen anything similar to this on any platform. Currently we use KDE 4.14.2 (Fedora 20 fully updated) on all of our Linux workstations without any problems. Could this be a KDE bug perhaps?

Anyway, your screen resolution is too low to run PixInsight. The application assumes an absolute minimum vertical resolution of 1024 pixels. Can you try with a higher resolution to see if the problem gets solved this way?

Thanks Juan
I just booted into Windows 8 on the dual boot and ran PixInsight from there. It runs ok. The max vertical resolution on my laptop is 768 so can't try higher. It seems PixInsight can run on 768 resolution on windows but not on linux.
Seems a shame I can't run it in Linux though as that is what PixInsight is designed for and my machine is noticeably quicker on Linux. I suspect many other use laptops as well and typically 768 is the best resolution many of them can give. I spend many hours in hotel rooms (for work), so using PixInsight on a laptop is kind of important for me.
Guess I'll just have to boot into the dreaded windows 8 for now when I want to use it :(

Hi Tim, I used to have this issue and I remember solving it by closing PixInsight and reopening it. It was very sporadic and could not find why happens.

As you say, when it happens, only one of the X in the title bar works. Closing and reopening the tool shows it in the same way.

Also KDE

Saludos, Alejandro.
