Virus in PixInsight ?!
« on: 2014 September 23 22:23:25 »
Hi,
I succesfully use PI almost a year. This morning, suddenly, starting PI my antivirus program (Avast) warned me on virus and deleted a file.
Anybody knows, what's going on? Screenshot attached.
Thanks in advance

This is a false positive. According to McAfee SecurityCenter version 12.8 (last updated 11 Sep 2014, virus scan engine updated 23 Sep 2014), there is no malware in an up-to-date PixInsight 1.8.2.1098 installation on Windows 7 Professional. Note that the version of BackgroundModelization-pxm.dll that is being distributed from our server was created on 23 June 2014.

You can also upload the BackgroundModelization-pxm.dll file to Metascan Online. Metascan checks the file with 40 anti-malware engines. As distributed from our server, there are no malware detections for this .dll file.

Thank you, Juan. It seems that Avast antivirus  erased three .dll files from my computer: BackgroundModelization-pxm.dll , Global-pxm.dll and Geometry-pxm.dll. What is the best solution of this problem? To reinstall PI ? Thanks
Ante

Hi,

In my lab we use:

https://www.virustotal.com/

This gave PixInsight a clean run on 52 anti-virus programs including Avast.

Both Norton (on my desktop) and McAfee (on my laptop) give PI a clean bill of health.
Celestron CPC1100 - Canon 550D (T2i) and of course, Pixinsight!

same here. i uninstalled avast and reinstalled pixinsight.  also i had to goto Install modules (right click to see this) and searched for modules and everything was back.

i had like 5 processes that wouldnt show up.

avast seems to me its too intrusive anyway

Well, there have been reports of virus scanners removing standard Windows DLLs. So s*** happens....
