.dll install Problems - Error opening file for writing

Help!  I am trying to install PI on a Win7/64 box but get a series of error messages ("Error opening file for writing") that read, for example: "c:\program files\pixinsight\bin\annotation-pxm.dll".   

When I "Click to Abort, Retry, or Ignore", other similar Error messages get produced, for example, " . . . .\AssistedColorCalibration-pxm.dll;  " . . . \BMP-pxm.dll"; " . . . BackgroundModelization=pxm.dll"; etc, etc.  It appears as though there is something wrong with getting .dll files to be installed.

I had the prior version of PI installed and functioning without issue.

The problem reported here occurred only after having uninstalled the prior version and then attempting to install 1098.

Any thoughts on how to resolve?

Are you installing the latest 64 bit executable?
Did you try to disable the virus scanner? Sometimes they cause trouble.
Did you try to reboot before doing another install?
Are there any remainders of previous installs? If yes, remove them.

Hi Georg,

Yes, I am installing the latest 64 bit executable.  I did not disable the virus scanner and prefer not to as PI never before had problems installing with it active.  I was able to install PI on an alternate drive (D:\) so the virus protection is not part of the problem but I want it installed on the C:\ drive.  Yes, I always reboot before attempting installs.  Finally, how do I check to see if there are "remainders" of previous installs?  I used the native PI "Uninstaller" to remove the prior install.

Sorry, then I dont know what is special in your case. I never had any issues installing PI on my Win64 machine...

All files of pixinsight are in the installation directory, c:\program files\pixinsight in your case, except the settings. You can simply delete that directory.

As a work around you can install on a specific directory on the C drive (as c:\program files\pixinsight-SOMETHINGHERE), I often install a new version that way to easily revert in case of problem.
