Hello
I was installing the last version on a new computer (I'm upgrading my work station).
OS is windows 7 64bit 16Gb Ram and AMD FX processor.

When I tried to run PixInsight, after a few seconds of thinking, I got a crash popup, telling me that Windows was collecting info....

I then installed the previous version of PI (...87) and that worked perfectly.
I installed again ....192 and again I was getting the crash on startup....
Then reverted again to ..87 and it worked.

Since this is a fresh installation, may be I'm forgetting to install something, but I don't know what.

Can some one help me?

My guess is that you installer is corrupted. Download it and try again.

Thanks Georg, but that didn't work.
I also copied the whole PI dir from my old computer to the new one and that did not work either.

I think I'm missing something at os level that vers ...1092 is using and ...1087 is not.

Just to test, I upgraded to windows 8, and there it works perfectly.
So I guess, there is something that PI uses and that is not part of the standard windows 7.
May be some framework?

I am not sure jet if I want to keep windows 8, because I dont know jet if my other applications will work with it.

The Win7 version works perfectly fine on my Win7 laptop...

Just a wild guess: Maybe some AntiVirus software is the cause? Maybe you can deactivate it temporarily during installation??

Thanks Gerog
I will try that, but still wondering why  ver 1087 works and 1092 not (it fails even before displaying the initial logo screen).

Last night I reinstalled Win 7.
Did not instal AV soft.
Again version 1092 did not even show the initial screen.

Version 1087 worked fine.

Just in case, I also swaped memory dims , tried my 4 dims one at a time in the 4 diferent slots and every time the same result.

Any other test I could do?

Hi Geert and Georg,

Build 1092 for Windows has been built with MS Visual Studio 2013, while 1087 was built with VS 2012. Other than this and new versions of third-party libraries (such as Qt, dcraw, OpenSSL, cURL, etc), there are no differences.

Visual Studio 2013 requires Windows 7 Service Pack 1. If you don't have SP1 installed, could this be the cause of these problems?

Hello Juan and Georg

Thanks a lot for your help

Finally the problem was service pack 1 missing.
Y applied all windows updates until service pack 1 appeared and now vers 1092 works ok.  :D
