Modelling work drying up so.....
« on: 2014 March 08 06:16:28 »
In a quandary as to what to furthur my interests in astrophotography,as most or the reviews concerning light pollution filters and coma correctors seem to fall into the dichotomy of love 'em hate 'em , what would other members spend their hard earned and excruciatingly embarrassing ways to make cash on? A CLS or Skywatcher light pollution filter, or a Baader coma corrector? My setup is purely DSLR using a Canon 1100D unmodified, a 150mm f/5 Celeston OTA and for extra info., a starlight express lodestar all carried by my trusty, go anywhere EQ5 Synscan upgrade mount.

Hi Peter,

If the place you live has arrived LED lighting  >:D, which I understand emit across the spectrum, then the suggestion is to look for dark or less polluted sky far from the city or make extreme use of PI tools to deal with gradients, difficulties in calibracción, etc.

Saludos,
Alejandro.

Peter,

You might want to try doing what I do whenever the moon invades, and that is to go to narrowband imaging.  Bandwidth is so narrow that you can shoot in a full moon or under suburban lights without degradation and PI lest you turn out some fantastic Hubble palette images.

Best,

Jim
Really, are clear skies, low wind and no moon that much to ask for?

Thanks guys, neat advice, the LED problem will be coming soon to my street next year so may hire a balloon to go above all the street lights and take it from there. Also Alejandro, have I mentioned how wonderful your processing examples are, really helpful and thank you for showing some of us the way tp mastering Pixinsight. Will go the narrowband route Jim and thank you for your sage advice, 2 top blokes........ :D :D

Hi, what i have learned from the gurus of the SF Bay Area is narrow-band or extremely long LRGB (20h+) to get a good signal.... but this is with a CCD, if that makes any difference.
