depending on the target, some tone compression with HDRMultiscaleTransformation can expose details, but will leave your contrast a little lacking.
so then the standard "S" curve gets you some contrast and for contrast in the details you can use LocalHistogramEqualization. i usually use sparing amount (0.2-0.3) with the other parameters left at defaults, thru a mask, so as to not enhance details in low SNR areas.
