Registering and integrating lunar subs
« on: 2013 August 23 09:26:04 »
Is it possible to register and integrate lunar subs with PI? If so, can someone please review the process with me or point me to a tutorial? Thanks very much

Hi, I use the star alignment tool, and open the two images I want to combine. Setting one as the master and just drop the apply triangle onto the other image. Sometimes you need to use a preview window as the alignment area to get it to take. But it does work very well once you have it figured out. I did post a 7 image lunar mosaic on this forum somewhere? It was combined in PI.

Wow, very impressive! You did this mosaic in June, hence with the old StarAlignment tool, The new version should work even better with local distortion correction.

This encourages me to implement registration based on other types of alignment references (local maxima, affine invariant features, SURF, etc).

How about a local taylor expansion? it would give you displacement and rotation :) (also a fourier aligment might work)
:)
