Some people have got in touch with us recently to ask when we are going to release a layers tool in PixInsight. We have read also some misleading comments and ideas about this topic in other forums.
As you probably know, during 2012 we were working on a new
Layers tool for PixInsight 1.8, which I announced on this forum. Early this year I decided to stop that line of development, mainly to concentrate our resources in more specialized image processing tools. This obviously generated some confusion—and also deception in some cases.
So I think we need an official explanation for those decisions. These are summarized in two new FAQ entries: 1.12 and 1.13:
