DBE Interface Not Displayed When Launched From Icon
« on: 2013 April 14 10:01:51 »
Using PI 1.8 RC5.  I have a DBE process icon saved as part of a project.  If I double-click the process icon from the workspace DBE launches (the sample boxes appear on the current image).  The interface itself does not appear and I can't figure out a way to display it or to close the DBE instance other than quitting from PI altogether.

I think the work-around/correct procedure is to open DBE from the Process Menu and then dragging the icon to the control bar of the DBE interface, but it is a "mistake" I make regularly.  Why doesn't the interface appear when double clicking the icon?

Did not see this is quick tests. Did you work with multiple workspaces? I have seen (with 1.7) that the GUI sometimes opens in a different workspace.

I believe I did see the problem in 1.7 previously.  I do work with multiple workspaces and I did check the other workspaces and could not find the interface in any of them.

Another possible cause: Different display resolutions. In this case, the dialog may open outside of the visible field. Check if you gave a scrollbar for the workspaces on the lower corner of the PI windows.
Just guessing...

No scrollbar (has caught me out a few times before, so I did think about that one).  I have two monitors, and checked the other one in case the interface somehow made its way on to that one, but no joy.  I'll try an experiment with a clean set-up when I get a chance to see if I can reproduce the problem reliably.

A further update on this issue.

I am consistently experiencing this issue on 1.8RC5 (but as previously noted, I have always had the same problem going back to 1.7, and the 1.8 version is a separate installation under a different directory).

I now noticed that I have the same problem with other saved processes that have a dynamic interface; e.g. If I save a dynamic crop as an icon. save everything as a project, quit PI, restart (e.g. next day), double-click the process icon and I will get the crop box displayed on the current image but the actual dynamic crop interface is not displayed.

I have looked in all the obvious places (e.g. other workspaces, other monitor, on the floor under the desk, scrolled further down in the window, etc.)  The only way to exit dynamic mode is to click the 'close' checkbox to quit PI.  It then asks if you want to quit the dynamic process (yes), and then warns if you have unsaved changes (clicking no at this point means you can stay in PI and regain control of the interface).

Everything works fine if you open a new instance of the relevant process from the menu, select your target image and then drag and drop your saved process icon to the control bar.

The machine does not change resolutions as it is a desktop setup with two monitors in extended desktop mode.  Running on Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

It seems likely to me that the interface dialog is being displayed somewhere that is not visible, but can't figure out where or why.
