HI,

i have been toying around with this program and i am getting a little lost in what to do.  I have downloaded the PixInsight LE version and at various web sights with older tutorials they refer to the LE video tutorials.  I cannot find them anywhere?  Is there a chance that I can have a link to use these tutorials.  I really wish to try this programme fully and learn it before i use updated trial version.

Many thanks.

I take it by the lack of replies that there were no PixInsight LE training videos?

OK are there training video that shows the operation of Pixinsight and explains the functions?

There DEFINITELY WERE videos in the very early days of PixInsight LE

I have four of them on my hard drive :

"Basic Levels and Histograms" 15Mb
"Previews" 14Mb
(-not sure-) 5Mb
"Process Icons"  13Mb

The videos are all between 5 and 6 minutes long, but are pretty 'poor' quality.

When played, the PI LE title bar displays "Pleaides PixInsight LE 1.0"

The commentary is in English, with an American accent - but I do not know who made these videos

All that said, the recent 'computerised' videos provide FAR, FAR more information, in MUCH HIGHER quality.

Hope this helps.

yes it certainly does Niall, thank you for the reply.  I have sent an email to you about getting a copy of the videos.

HI,

Yes - I got your email. When I am 'back home' I'll look at sending my copies on - I have NO IDEA about the copyright of these. They were 'freely available' when I downloaded them, so I can only assume that they must still be in 'free circulation'.

I will reiterate though, that unless you really WANT to stay with the LE version, then Juan's recent videos are FAR more useful.

I don't even really consider LE to be worthwhile downloading anymore - I would always recommend downloading the latest full-blown version, and then making the most of the 30-day trail period. And, if 30 days isn't enough, speak to Juan - he will be sure to know how best to advise you if you need more than that period of time to 'decide'.

HTH

Niall,

i fully understand what you are saying, but i wish to learn as much as possible about this programme and how to use it - obviously starting from the bottom and working my way up is the answer.  I hope the videos will help to fill in a bit of the programme as well as how to operate it.  I have Images Plus and AstroArt4 that i bought.  Images plus is good but i do get lost with it a bit, and as for astroart - i just dont get how to use that programme so it sits never used but then I do not own a CCD.  I have a modded 20D and a cooled canon 350D, so Images Plus does make that easy to use.  it is getting the best out of the processing that I see PixInsight to have remarkable instruments within it to make a average image a good one

Hi again David,

Well, I certainly started with LE, several years ago now - in fact it was only in January this year that I finally made my 'committment' to the full-blown version.

LE certainly had a 'gentler' learning curve - aided in my case by a LOT of time spent with IRIS, and (still) a LOT of time spent with AIP4WIN (and the stunningly excellent associated HAIP handbook).

I will get the videos sent to you, they may not help that much, but they will get you started.

Niall,

I have a friend of mine - Scott Alder ( http://www.nas.org.au/Scott.htm)who almost exclusively uses IRIS has tried to show me IRIS. LOL i am a bit thick when it comes to picking up some of the procedures for this programme.  I hope that by watching a few videos i can pick up PixInsight and progress with it - then lash out and buy it.  the purchase price for me is nearly double the euro value (with the Australian Exchange rate) so i do want to make sure it will be right for me.

David,

I know what you mean when you talk about the exchange rates affecting the purchase price. I paid about 30% 'over the odds' when I bought my PI licence - compared to my associate and colleague in the observatory next door. Alex had just been lucky, and paid for his licence when the Euro to UK GB £ exchange rate was more favourable.

That said, now that I am fully licenced, I have NO REGRETS - honestly - PixInsight (like the AIP4WIN and HAIP combo) is one of the BEST investments you can make (you can send me my €10 advertising fee now, Juan  ::) )

the more i look at the videos - the more i am slowly being convinced to part with my hard earned money.  I will admit that this software needs some more basic videos to show people how it is used and what to do, especially for DSLR cameras
