Mask Menu checkbox reversed behavior with video including how to fix it

I've been trying to get this fixed for a long time. Maybe this will finally provide the impetus to get it done. Clearly there's a flag that is not being initialized or otherwise needs to be tickled before it works properly. The correct menu behavior is also saved with the project file but it does not survive a restart of PI.

Seems like the splash screen might actually have something to do with this. I had the splash screen disabled and also had the mask problem. I re-enabled the splash screen and restarted PI. That seemed to fix the mask problem.

I also noticed that when the splash screen is enabled, most of the mask menu entries are greyed out until a mask is selected, while nothing is greyed out if the splash screen is disabled.

Seems like the mask problem did not completely go away with enabling the splash screen. I've had some mask problems from time to time, but haven't been able to reproduce them. Let's hope they'll be gone in 1.8.

Well Juan has never acknowledged any of these splash-screen related UI state problems so I don't know.

The code that handles the states of all menu and tool bar actions has been rewritten from scratch. This problem should no longer exist in version 1.8.0 ... fingers crossed, hands and feet.
