Central Location for Scripts?
« on: 2012 November 24 11:53:14 »
Is there a central location for all current scripts not included with the PI install? I'd like to make sure I have all scripts available for use but updates don't seem to include scripts.

Thanks,

Steve

Look in the src directory. On Windows, thats usually C:\Program Files\PixInsight\src\scripts

Right of course Georg but what I meant was on the PI site for downloading.

Not that I know of.
There was a discussion on a source repository at http://pixinsight.com/forum/index.php?topic=4581.0, but it did not materialize, at least not as a central repository.

Thanks for the replies. I guess what I was hoping for is a list of scripts with a short description and listed versions they work in.

Something along the lines of :

HaRGBCombination.js      Used for adding Ha and RGB data     Versions 1.3 and up
MakeFileGenerator.js       Description                                        Versions 1.1 and up

All listed in one list with links to those scripts. Seems some are located off PI's sites or on alternative sites so the links would be great. I've just purchased a new laptop and want to download all the pertinent to me scripts. Guess I'm looking for easy >:D

I did get smart enough to copy my favorites icons that start up with PI and setup the downloads repository. Now if there was a way to do something like that for the scripts listing those available and not installed, that would be sweet.

Maybe something down the road.

Thanks Again,

Steve

A central repository for all the scripts would be ideal.  Right now, its a forum search and lots of reading to find what you are looking for (assuming you know what you are searching for  :-\ ) and you will never be positive you have the most up to date version.  I believe the PI community is losing a lot of value by not having an easy to find and search repository that all new PI users could readily use.

Maybe someone could create a topic titled "Public scripts" or some similar name in the forum "New Scripts and Modules". Then each script author posts one post for each script which includes a link to a .zip containing the script, documentation and whatnot. The author then updates the post on each release. The topic gets pinned so it stays at the top in the forum. Is this workable?

Thanks,
Mike

Mike, that's a much better option than the current situation.  We would need a moderator to pin the topics accordingly and authors to keep them updated, but it's a solution to the problem until a formal script repository is added to the PI site.

Thanks for the suggestion and your continued efforts on your PI scripts,
Craig
