'Enable Mask' and 'Show mask' menu items are reversed

I have seen this behavior too, but since I could not reproduce it consistently, I didn't report it.

I have the same problem as Sander. Status of mask icons is inverted. I can reproduce this problem on every image. here are attached two images, that are enough descriptive.

I can confirm this bug. Enable Mask and Invert Mask are both unselected by default, yet the mask is enabled and visible when Select Mask is used. The state of the buttons does not change. If I select Enable Mask and Invert Mask before I select the mask, everything works as it should. I'm running a 64-bit Windows 7.

Speaking of masks, whatever you use as a mask has a name ?

Can this name be highlighted, in red for example,
in the left margin where you dropped it,
to indicate that you have an active mask on your image ?

Hopefully this bug has been fixed in PixInsight Core version 1.8, which we'll release in September. I say 'hopefully' because I have never been able to reproduce this issue in our machines. However, I have rewritten significant portions of the code involved, so fingers crossed!

Sorry, I find that hard to believe. This is not intermittent behavior. It -always- works like this. What I think is going on is that you see the same behavior we do but you think it's fine. This is a case where somehow we have different opinions on what's the right behavior and what is not.

I just reproduced this again in 1.7.6

- select image to be masked
- pick a mask from the menu
- image turns red (mask is shown)
- open mask menu again
- 'show mask' item is not checked
- check 'show mask'
- mask no longer visible

You can't tell me it doesn't work that way on your windows box or with some on your team you trust to report issues accurately. If it doesn't then I don't know what it's worth you even running PI on your windows VM at all. It would be completely irrelevant and not representative of what your users experience.

I was thinking about that but it will probably show what Juan already sees for himself. I think the issue is that we have a different understanding about what the correct behavior should be. If Juan replies saying he followed the steps I just listed and he doesn't see the check-mark behavior I see then I'll record a video.
