Adding my data to a friends data?

Hi, was just wondering about the best way to add 2 images together, is it just a simple pixelmath add? Both are stacks of our own images.

i guess it depends on what your data is and what his/her data is. are they both the same kind of image, or is one say, L and the other RGB?

Both images are a stack, mine are DSLR, not sure about the other, than its a TIFF and not a FITS, but thats not an issue.
