I'm on the 45 day trial. I am following along on Harry's Astroshed tutorials I am getting error messages while executing a DBE. the messages are different when I use my saved file of Harry's but both fail

Release 1.8RC1 is not yet fully stable. I recommend to use 1.7 until the final 1.8 release (without RC for release candidate) is available.

Sorry, I seemed to have posted before I finished.
It is indeed  version 1.8 but being a trail subscription I do believe I can't change that now
I have a Windows 8 non touch screen operating system.
The program is installed in the "Program" folder and not the "Program(86)" folder if that makes any difference. I do not believe I modified the standard installation.

Just keep the licence file you generated, unistall PI, and install the 1.7 version.
