Process icon save request small feature
« on: 2012 February 12 12:32:03 »
Can the default name of a process icon being saved PLEASE be the name I have just set for the icon itself on the workspace?

I realize you have mega-features to think about but please consider this if it is not a big deal to squeeze in as this is a workflow/ease of use feature improvement.     Thanks for any efforts in advance.    Mark

Details if you did not get it from above info: (OPTIONAL READING ONLY IF ABOVE IS UNCLEAR)

Would be most grateful if when one saves a process icon that has been formed by dragging the 'execute' triangle in lower left to the desktop that the file name default be the name as the current process icon identifier.  I save these things all the time (and LOVE that ability by the way to save my setting in form of an xpsm file.

Generally I save the icon with the drag tool 'execute' triangle to the desktop then use upper right on the icon to rename the process icon with a nice name.   Next I generally save the icon and it is here that it always chooses name  'untitled.xpsm'.   It would be so useful if this had the default name of what I have just nammed this process icon.

Thanks for considering squeezing this hopefully simple feature improvement into some later PixInsight.

Thanks,
Mark Johnston

Yes, I agree that 'untitled' isn't a very inspired choice.

The routine for saving icons appears to be the same for one or many icons.  I suspect this is the reason that it wasn't coded that way already. I agree that your suggestion would be useful in the case where the icon selection set consists of just one icon.  I usually save a set of icons associated with a project then I use a name related to the project like ngc2359.xpsm or some such.

The request is motivated also to be more consistent with how images get saved where they inherit the image name as you decide to save the image.

Besides being a little bit more consistent it would be greatly appreciated as I save 'favorite' icons in a sort of common startup project that suits my workflow instead of the favorites menu and also I document my workflow (including saving process icons as I go) so what I can go back to an earlier point.    So the name being what I have just named it would be a big help.

I have also used the save full history of processes as seen in HistoryExplorer and of course that is very kool and valuable.

Again, just a hint that I feel would maybe have a high level of payout for pixinsight workflow to assorted folks at what I hope may be a minimal amount of change/effort for the team.

Thanks for any consideration,
Mark Johnston
