Frame registration results in chopped registered frame
« on: 2012 January 31 12:20:20 »
Hello all,

Issuing a normal frame registration between two frames, I get the new framed with a kind of chopped view, it would seem the intersection between the two frames.

Release: 1.7.4.759
Platform: Win32

See attached screenshot.

I am going back to the previous release for now....

Nicola

Other bit of info: going back to the previous release didn't help  :'( now I can't get a correct registered frame anymore.
Before you ask, I executed the "reset pixinsight settings" routine.

Hi Nicola,

From the console log it seems the registration was successful. Could you upload both images so I can investigate what happens?

If you don't have a website, you can use a free file sharing service (such as dropbox.com, just to name an example), or wait until tomorrow and we'll set up a temporary FTP account for you on our server.

Hi Nicola,

Thanks for the FITS files. StarAlignment works perfectly with these images. The 'chopped' result is because you are applying a normal image registration process to images that only overlap partially. I guess what you want to do is a mosaic. In this case you have to select StarAlignment's "Register/Union - Mosaic" working mode:

Nice images by the way.

Thank you Juan for your information. Only one thing: did you manage to register the mosaic without applying a non linear stretch before the registration?

Thanks
Nicola

Yes, of course. The only correct way to build a mosaic is with linear images.

In the screenshot above, the images are visible thanks to STF. The StarAlignment tool has all default parameters except the mosaic working mode, frame adaptation and mask generation options. This mosaic is very easy to build because there's plenty of overlapping.
