Sh2-149 The Jellyfish Nebula
« on: 2011 November 15 20:57:16 »
This is an image of the Sh2-149 I was able to acquire in late sept.  Calibrated/processed in PixInsight.  I used Vicents method of isolating the Ha continuum and added this to the red frames at 100%.  20% of the Ha was added to the Blue and 10% to the Green frames to account for the Hb signal.  Comments/Criticisms appreciated.

Jon,

lovely image with crispy detail!
Also well balanced between Nebula and Background; well done  :D

Could you give us some details about your equipment used for this picture?

Thanks

Hi Lex,

Thank you for the comment.  I used a 80mm f6 refractor and my QSI 583 camera.  I have the 31mm Astrodon LRGB and Narrowband filter set.  The Ha filter used in this image was the 5nm filter.  The individual subexposures were 1200 sec for Ha and 600 sec for RGB.  Since I live in an area with pretty horrible light gradients, I have to utilize DBE after stacking to get rid of the gradient.  It normally works perfectly.  I hope to have a larger res version of the image up on my site tonight.

Christoph,

Go to Harry's video tutorial page and look at the video about adding Ha to a RGB image.  It explains it very well and as an added bonus, Harry has included some process icons.
