Password during software update?
« on: 2011 January 10 22:19:50 »
So I just downloaded the latest PI (hadn't done it on this computer yet)...
After installing it, it found two updates, one related to the documentation, the other containing bug fixes on the core app...

When I try getting them, eventually the application asks me to identify myself.

Since I'm a dummy and I don't remember my password, I go to the web site and change it.
I am then able to log in to the pixinsight.com web site.

I restart PixInsight, and during the update it asks me to identify myself again. Well, now I know my (new) password, right?

But the application still goes "Invalid User Authentication Data".

So I can't get the updates and I don't know what exactly is going on.

Hi Rogelio,

The update system uses your user account on our file server. This is the account that allows you to enter our software distribution system; it has nothing to do with your user account on this forum.

Hi Rogelio,

I was suspecting two different password systems but:

1) When I changed the password (for the forum), the next thing I did was to visit the "distro" directory, it asked me to log-in, I used the new password and it worked. This is the same password that wouldn't work when retrieving an update.

2) Regardless, assuming two password systems, how can I change or request a new password for the "other" system?

Thanks!

Maybe it wasn't clear, but I still need help with the above issue. I have no clue how to retrieve/change the password that the updating system is asking (does anyone?), and until I figure that out, I can't get any core app updates.

Rogelio,

I believe it's the password they sent you by email when you purchased your commercial license. Hopefully, you saved that. If not, perhaps they'll re-issue it.

Thanks Steve.

No I didn't save that.

Regardless, if the password to access the distro area is the same as the one to get updates, something isn't working as designed, because I can access the distribution area with the new "forum" password (which of course doesn't work to get the updates). Anyway, I'll wait until Juan chimes in.  O:)
