PI 1.6.9 and Wacom tablet
« on: 2010 December 21 05:48:12 »
I'm finding that with the latest PixInsight, I cannot now scroll by grabbing the scroll bars when I use a Wacom tablet. I could in the previous version of PI.

I'm using a MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard 10.6.5 with the 64 version of PI

Hi Dave,

Indeed I've added some tablet support in version 1.6.9. PI now receives and decodes tablet events when they happen on images, and simply translates them into mouse events. This is an extremely rough way to handle tablets but it's better than nothing; my intention is adding sophistication to tablet management in incoming versions (pressure, tilt, pen types, etc).

Tablet events are now received and handled by image views. You can use the tablet to move the cursor over the image. It seems that by implementing this, we have removed other functionality (directly provided by the OS) that you were using in previous versions. Do you think I should revert tablet handling to the previous state (i.e., not handling tablets at all)?

Hi Juan,

With the previous version I didn't have any problems with the tablet.
With 1.6.9 though, it's a different kettle of fish. When the cursor is in read out mode, more often than not, I cannot scroll by grabbing the scroll bars. That problem appears to be intermittent because sometimes I can. I do not know why that is.

When the cursor is in Pan mode, I don't have problems.

Up until this version I always used the cursor in the readout mode.

I'm pleased that you are intending to add more tablet functions. I'll use it as is, and let you know how I get on after a week or so of processing.

Regards
Dave

Edit: Well, this didn't take long. I've just tried to clone one or two spots on one of my images. Trying to do this with the tablet and with PixInsight in its present form is a bit of a nightmare. In Pan mode I can't select a spot and in readout mode I can't.

Hi Dave,

This confirms what I was suspecting after your initial post. It is obvious that tablet support requires more work and testing before including it in production releases, so I'm going to disable it in the next update for all platforms, reverting to the previous state.

Thanks for testing and reporting it, and sorry for having caused these problems!
