PI crashes frequently when making star mask
« on: 2010 October 15 02:42:51 »
Hi,

I'm using a MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard with 4GB RAM. I'm also running PixInsight 1.6.1 64 bit.
Frequently when trying to make a star mask PI crashes, sometimes I do succeed in making the mask.
Also when I have actually made such mask, the mask sometimes will not change to the red colour overlay. See attached screen shot.

Hi Dave,

This is a known bug that has been fixed recently. You should install this bugfix update:

Let me know if this fixes those crashes.

This typically happens because you have disabled mask visibility. Try selecting Mask > Show Mask from the main menu (also from the image context menu), or pressing Cmd+K (Ctrl+K on FreeBSD/Linux/Windows).

Hi Juan,

Than.k you for your reply. I don't know how I missed those updates, I thought I'd done them all.
I've applied the updates and had a go at making star masks 8 times with 100% success rate.

Regarding the mask not showing as a red overlay though. As the screen shot shows, I have it selected as 'show mask'

Thank you very much

Dave

Indeed; sorry for not noticing it.

Then the only cause I can figure out is that the mask is white or almost white. Only pixels that are being protected (that is, pixels for which the mask is not white) are represented on the masked image, according to the current mask rendering mode. Does this make sense in this case?

Juan,

Thank you. I'm having no problems making star masks. I think I understand what you mean  :D
