Just Checking Out Image Calibration
« on: 2010 September 12 14:42:43 »
I just went through the image calibration process and only hitch I had was on the Dark Frame settings. I had the Optimize box checked and when I checked the images they appeared to not have been dark subtracted even though the Calibrate box was checked. Running the sequence a second time and all went as expected after unchecking the Optimize box. As my camera does bloom on bright stars I don't really see a need to use this process as I still need to go back into MaxImDl/CCD and do bloom removal. I use MaxIm as it is my software of choice (and need for ACP) for acquiring data. I usually do the image calibration in MaxIM and then the bloom repair before saving and working on in PI. Does PI have a better calibration routine? I can't see how if I'm using the same master frames that were made in MaxIm. Also, I don't see a routine for creating master calibration frames in PI. I imagine it can be done, any suggestions as to how?

I also usually remove hot pixels in MaxIm before saving. What process would be the equivalent in PI?

Steve, there is a badpixel process, give that a try. I think it's a bit cumbersome so I may port my fixfits utility to PI which does it automatically.

Hello Sander,

I gave you fixfits a try and not sure I'm doing it properly. I have the folder of images on my terabyte drive which is drive J and the Volume Name is MasterImage. The image folder is All-NGC7331 and the sub folder is PI. I am using Run, CMD and then typing J:\All-NGC7331\PI>fixfits -a -fc and get the error 'J:\All-NGC7331\PI' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. I did edit the path as C:\bin as I did extract the files to the new folder c:/bin. I also did this on the J drive and added that path as well just in case. Adding in the volume name,  J:\MasterImage\All-NGC7331\PI>fixfits -a -fc gets me "System can not find the path specified. I suspect I'm doing something stupid? Care to suggest my error?

Thanks,
Steve

I should mention that this is a Windows 7 64 bit system if that makes a difference.

The command is just 'fixfits'. Nothing prefixes it. What happens when you just type 'fixfits' on a command prompt?

Great! Then you know what you did wrong before.

Duh...It's been a while since I used any command line stuff. OK, I see the error of my ways. I'll need to go back and just calibrate and de-bloom to see the real power behind this process.

Thanks for the patience!
