Processing advice request.
« on: 2010 September 08 04:08:06 »
Hi.

I need to enhance the image below to show that the contrail, particularly, in the lower left hand side of the image is above the clouds (which I believe it is). I've tried several methods in Pixinsight with varying degrees of success.

What I would like to do is remove the glare and the blue, leaving high contrast contrail and clouds. The human eye is not able to assess depth / distance particularly well against a diffuse blue background - an effective way to create a sense of space in a confined area - diffuse blue lighting is very effective for this purpose.

What tools would be most effective in this case. Appreciate any help ideas etc. It is actually a work requirement, but I think it would make an interesting exercise also.

Many thanks.

Hi,

This probably needs a little more work, but I attached two examples (with 1 and 2 runs of the process) and the curves process icon that you may find it useful. The process icon should be applied with a blue mask (make a "RGB Split Channels", and use the blue like mask)

Using a polarizing filter to take the photos often improves the contrast with the sky.

Best regards,

Enzo.

Hi Enzo. Thank you very much for taking the time with this - it's very much appreciated.

I will apply your routines to the original also.

Unfortunately, I didn't take the original image and clarity in this case would have been very helpful to answer the clients questions.

I'm not using Pixinsight commercially, but it has certainly helped out in this situation.

Cheers,

Rowland.
