Segmentation Violation again; formatted Mac Pro - just the OS and PI.

Hi
I report this bug again hoping you can find a solution to it. I formatted my Mac Pro 5.1 and Installed PI on it, just the OsX Mojave and PI on the machine. I get this randomly. there's no patterns, nothing I repeat usually. It happens. Thank you for your help.

I just posted in another thread that I found with a Google search about what looks like the identical error I'm getting on my new 2019 Mac Pro. In my case I'm running Catalina and it seems to happen consistently a few minutes after I lock the screen or the screen goes to sleep while PixInsight is running (even if it's not doing anything at all).

My suspect now starts to take a shape! This may be the "pattern" we were looking for and have in common, as both of us were facing the same situation; this would be the one to report to developers. Apparently PI stucked randomly but as I started to think about "when does it do this mess" I noticed that a 20 min gap somehow was the time it took to crash while doing nothing. And as I saw your post then my suspect went stronger. Now it seems the problem has something to deal with the sleep mode and/or entering/exiting the energy saving or the screensaver mode. We both have the same bad feeling, almost sure about it.

UPDATE: I tried this: I set the screen lock at 1 minute. After that I got back in Mojave and found that PI was stuck. I can't even open the process consolle. It seems we found something. By now I'll set the screen lock to "never" and wait for some good news.

I found something about this issue.

I switched my monitor <-> graphic card connection to HDMI port 1; I previously plugged the monitor to the Display Port. Now I don't get any segmentation violation error message also getting in back from a screensaver mode or a screen lock. I hope this could help.

wow, this sounds similar to the graphics driver problems on windows. are you running an nvidia card? i wonder if there is a "web driver" available for your video card (vs. the one that comes built in to the OS from apple).

AMD not Nvidia. I don't think Apple has shipped any new machines with Nvidia graphics for many years (they pissed off Steve Jobs somehow I think ) and they completely dropped driver support for Nvidia in MacOS recently.

In any case it seems that the bug has been fixed in the PI 1.8.8-4 release. At least I'm not experiencing it anymore.
