Clarification

I am new to the PixInSight thing. This morning I received an e-mail that said Release 1,8,8-3 was available. Me being me (curious and stupid) decided to up-load it to my AP laptop. That went fine, what happens  next, has left me scratching my head. It looks like the new release is not a patch, but the full program.

As assumption is the root to all problems, I thought I better stop and ask, before I did something there is no coming back from. The message I got was basically a "previous version is on your computer.... Go to Control panel and delete...) So do I have to delete 1.8.8 before installing 1.8.8-3??? What all will I lose if I follow a delete and re-install?

On another note, is there anywhere where I can tell what Version I currently have? And if NOT, why NOT???

For the version number go to Resources/About Pixinsight.

Often, yes. Check the release notes and installation instructions, and you probably will see where you need to uninstall PI completely, then install the new release.

I've done it several times, and it works fine. You won't lose any of your data or saved projects.
