Remote Desktop - PI Error

For as long as i can remember, i have been able to connect via a VPN to my laptop at home and able to open PI and process images.   Quite handy when i am away from home but dont have the image files with me.

Of late that has stopped working.   I can connect to my laptop over the VPN no problem (using windows RDP) but as soon as i start PI i get a grey screen and the error Error - Unknown Error.   At this point i have no option bu to open task manager and end task.

Any ideas as to why this would have happend all of a sudden?    I initally thought this waa a PI problem so reinstalled it.   it works fine if i run PI when in front of the laptop.

Could have something to do with how PixInsights interfaces with the graphics-subsystem and how compatible hat is with RDP...
As an alternative, have you tried a variant of VNC? I use TightVNC and that is working quite good for me in a similar setup. In my setup VNC is more responsive and has always been a bit more reliable than RDP... Maybe that works for you too.

I'm having the same issue. I purchased PI to do image registration and alignment for Tycho-Tracker (asteroid synthetic identification software) and PI works fine on my desktop, but not using remote desktop.

I am on latest PI with all updates as of Nov 13th 2019

I use Microsoft remote desktop into my PI instance on my mount-top capture PC (a Win10x64 machine) and it works perfectly.  And that is at high res as well.

I can remote desktop into that PC from MAC, Windows or iPad RDP clients.

I also have another iteration of PI on a Win10 laptop.  RDP works on that too.......

All these machines are on my LAN and I connect wired or wirelessly.  I have not tried to connect over VPN.
