1.8.8 on Linux (fedora 30)
« on: 2019 November 11 03:41:33 »
Hi,

As my macOS is too old for 1.8.8, I thought I would try and install on a fedora 30 (all updates installed) version. This seems to be supported re the below statement:

PixInsight 1.8.8 has been tested on the following Linux distributions:

Kubuntu 18.04 LTS
Kubuntu 19.04
Fedora 29
Fedora 30
Linux Mint 19.1

The installer (ran as root) though just gives:

[root@slartibartfast PixInsight-Linux]# ./installer

PixInsight will be installed with the following parameters:

Source installation directory ... /home/colin/Download/PI-Install/PixInsight-Linux/PixInsight
PixInsight core application ..... /opt/PixInsight
Application desktop entry ....... /usr/share/applications/PixInsight.desktop
Application icons directory ..... /usr/share/icons/hicolor
MIME type description file ...... /usr/share/mime/packages/PixInsight.xml
Create /bin launcher script ..... yes
Remove previous installation .... yes

==> Are you sure [yes|no] ? yes

Please wait while PixInsight is being installed...
Illegal instruction (core dumped)

Checking the OS version on the machine gives:

colin@slartibartfast% more os-release

If your computer is old perhaps it has an unsupported CPU.

From the release notes of the version 1.8.8:
Quote
Hardware Requirements: Breaking Changes

The FreeBSD, Linux and macOS versions of PixInsight 1.8.7 and 1.8.8 require a processor with SSE4.2 instruction support.
