Not getting WCS coords in Fits Header
« on: 2019 August 19 07:33:05 »
I wanted to relate my image to one posed in an article on-line that used Galactic Coords. So, I plate-solved my image expecting to get WCS coordinates in the header so that I could read out galactic coords from my image. I tried both the image-solve script and photometric calibration, but neither posted the WCS coords to the header. Attached is what I did. Could someone show me where I went wrong?

Thanks, Alex

hmm, it should end up with WCS coordinates after ImageSolver. are you sure the solve didn't fail?

looks like it did the solution: 1) it produced the output image (with 'WCS' in the image name), 2) if I pass the image to "Annotate", I get an annotated image, 3) as I pass the cursor over the preview annotation, the RA/Dec readouts at the  bottom change matching the RA/Dec grid in the annotation.
So...??

what happens if you rather than running against a file on disk, open the file as a view and run the script on the view? i've never run it the way you're running it...

Yes, that's what I normally do, and tried here too. Same problem. Actually, it's probably been many months since I've see the cursor with the coordinates ever show itself. Is there some global setting I mess up that I don't know about?

i guess i have forgotten what the actual WCS keywords look like. maybe what you have there is correct - i can definitely see the RA/Dec in the readout - so perhaps the keywords you show comprise the WCS keywords.

to enable the readout, from the pop-up menu at in the bottom toolbar, make sure celestial coordinates > Equatorial is ticked, and also make sure "show readout preview" under "readout data" in the same menu is ticked. also make sure you are in the readout cursor mode from the top toolbar.

Rob...
Thanks so much for your great guidance! Your last post did the trick: "Show readout preview" was not checked. I guess I did not recognize the thing I wanted was a "preview." Now all is copacetic!
