pixinsight 1.8.6 and windows 7
« on: 2019 July 15 10:48:16 »
Hi everybody!

I have a problem with pixinsight...or with my pc!
Yesterday I installed pixinsight on an old computer but it doesn't work. At startup it runs for a few seconds correctly and then crashes, no longer responds to commands. The pixisnight version is the last relese, my old pc is a little windows 7 professional with service pack and these characteristics:
i2 quad CPU Q6600 2,4Ghz
RAM 4 gb
hard disk 500 giga

I used version 1.8.3 on this computer without any problems, it worked correctly, slowly but correctly!
What do you think about my problem? Does the new version require a more powerful computer or could the problem be elsewhere? Is there anything I can do before buying a new computer?

thanks

Tommaso

Tommaso, this is an extract from Pixinsights system requirements document:

The only Windows platform supported officially by current versions of PixInsight is Windows 10.

Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1 are no longer part of our mainstream supported platforms. We make efforts to ensure that PixInsight still can work on Windows 7 SP1 and Windows 8.1, but we no longer test the application on these Windows versions. This means that we cannot guarantee that current PixInsight versions will still work correctly on Windows 7 SP1 and Windows 8.1.

PixInsight 1.8.6 does not run on Windows Vista, XP, NT, 2000, ME, 98, 95, or 3.1x/Win32s.

thank you Davce for the quick answer,

as I feared!

"We make efforts to ensure that PixInsight still can work on Windows 7 SP1 and Windows 8.1" this phrase gave me hope....
