Halo Reduction
« on: 2019 May 09 06:25:05 »
I am attempting Halo reduction following example on-line by Nuno Pina Cabral.
Instructions very clear and followed easily, but when I apply ATrousWaveletTransform I get thick black rings around my stars. How do I apply without affecting the background??

Don't know what type of image you have, but if it is of a nebula, I suspect Cabral's method may not work. Notice that he only applies his technique to stars on a "black" sky background. I'm just guessing because I've never used this method (nor any other method) with any success on nebulae.

I did not respond before because I am not certain what the halos look like... but the steps of my star de-emphasis tutorial will also work to remove color halos around stars (assuming they are on the order of one to two stellar radii).  Simply making the star halo mask is most of the issue, and then there are many ways of dealing with problems.
You might want to look into the technique.
