1.8.6 install fail on Fedora 27
« on: 2019 January 31 18:09:57 »
I'm having trouble getting 1.8.6 to work on FC 27. After install, I got an error that a libz file could not be found so I went through my install notes from last time and noted that I needed to rename  libz.so.1.2.7 to libz.so.1.2.9. So I did that (not sure why I have to do that) and that error went away. But then I got this one:

[4628:4628:0131/210746.357443:ERROR:zygote_host_impl_linux.cc(89)] Running as root without --no-sandbox is not supported. See https://crbug.com/638180.

Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks.

Tim

Hi Tim,

You don't have to rename any system file to run PixInsight 1.8.6. The new version will run out-of-the-box on any reasonably modern Linux distribution. That issue with a missing libz dependency does not happen anymore since 1.8.6.

It seems you are running PixInsight as root. The error happens because the integrated Chromium component in PI 1.8.6 cannot be executed as root without special parameters to protect the environment.

Besides that, PixInsight must never be executed with administrative privileges on any platform. Doing that is extremely dangerous. Please run the application as a regular user without write permissions on system directories and files.
