Uninstalling and the requesting new codes
« on: 2019 January 24 06:44:36 »
Please Devs, can we sort something out, this is a pain in the backside, every time you release an update we have to uninstall, then re-install and then request a new activation code.

I have PI installed on my Workstation, My Astro Laptop and my business Laptop, so I have to run this procedure three times!

The way you are turning out updates for fixes upon fixes in faster than Microsoft does!!!

Lets have a bit of stability and a review of how you plan to do this in future.

Thank-you

NB. Sorry needed to add I do have the pixinsight-license file located under c:\users\user.name\

The license key you have under c:\users\user.name\ is only valid for v.1.8.5 and lower. From v1.8.6 the license key is stored in %appdata%\Pleiades which is basically c:\users\AppData\Roaming\Pleiades.I just uninstalled the program, the license key was not removed and updated to the latest version PI-windows-x64-01.08.06.1457.No new activation required.

Thanks Tom,

I'm not aware that anyone has mentioned that the license needed to be upgraded.

Do I need to keep a backup of the new license and using that for new installations?

It was mentioned in the Announcement: https://pixinsight.com/forum/index.php?topic=12986.0.
Yes, the new key should be backed up and you can use it the same way like the previous license key to copy to your other notebooks.
The new key is only valid from v1.8.6
Due that you mentioned that you didn't need the activation on your workstation, I guess, the workstation has already the new key.
Old key file name: pixinsight-license
New key filename: PixInsightLicense

Cheers
Tom

Thanks Tom,

Due to the rubbish weather we have been having in the UK since October, I rarely visit the forum as I have no data to process, I didn't see any mention of it in the email announcement.
