Setup file system with TheSkyXPro

When I open a "New File" in Pixinsight I cannot directly source files (lights, bias,flats) that I've taken that reside in TSXP. The method that I've been using is: Open TSXP - access the "Image" files - select the files that I want (e.g. lights) drag them to the Desktop - create a file for them and select and load them into the new file. At this point I can access them from Pixinsight as they're on the "Desktop".

To my knowledge there is no way to access the files that reside within TheSkyXPro program.

This is extremely labour intensive and time consuming. Obviously there's an easier way.

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

what do you mean by "the files that reside within TheSkyXPro program."?

files don't reside within programs so i'm not sure what you are asking. if you are saying that you've saved files to a folder that is invisible to an Open File dialog (or have saved the files inside the application bundle of TheSkyXPro, which is also a folder), then that's why.

it sounds like you should be telling TSXP to be saving files in some other directory.

In TSX you need to setup your Autosave Folder (on the Camera Tab) to save the files to somewhere more easily accessible. The default on a mac is within the SkyX files structure located in Library. While doing so it is worth ticking the date based sub-folder option. I use /users/chris/pictures/astro.

In PI use open to access these files rather than new.

Thanks, Chris. That's exactly the information that I need.

As a follow-up, say you image three different targets in an evening, after you've processed them do you store the files by date, name or some other combination so that you can find them in the future? I'd like to establish a permanent system so that I don't have to keep changing/modifying it which will only lead to future problems.

What I do for capture is what Chris described. Setup a place for TS to put the files as it captures them.

Then, I set up a folder in a separate directory (e.g., 2019-01-18-VeilNebula) where I put all the files that I process in PI.
