PI 1.8.6 Malware warning
« on: 2018 December 27 17:52:36 »
Hi
Just downloaded and tried to install the new 1.8.6, but AVG detects the following threat: "Win32:Malware-gen" and won't let me install. Any suggestions???
Roger

Roger, we use McAfee Internet Security on all of our development and testing Windows machines. Just to be completely sure, I have just run a scan with McAfee (VirusScan version 22.2.158, engine version 3569.0, created 12/26/2018). There are no viruses in our Windows installation archives.

You can always try https://www.virustotal.com for a second and third and fourth and... opinion.

Just got the same message with Avast. I listed the file in "Exclusions" (ie told Avast to ignore the file) and then PixInsight installed OK

Thanks Juan
I somewhat nervously turned AVG off and installed PI 1.8.6 successfully. Then did a virus scan which was all clear!!! Up and running with the new version so all good now.
I did try Georg's suggestion of Virustotal but the file was too big so it wouldn't accept it.
