Horizontal banding removal not working
« on: 2018 October 23 05:25:31 »
Hi All,

Another problem here.  I ran some short (one minute) exposures for some globular cluster shots and ended up with horizontal banding that I don't normally have.  DBE handled the background variation, but left the banding.  Attempting to use the CanonBandingReduction macro gives me single pixel horizontal color stripes.  Any idea how to fix this?

Thanks,

Beo

Hi Beo, try reducing the amount from 1.00 to say 0.75. I used the tool recently and with the defaults it left behind a single 1-pixel line. By reducing the amount, the tool worked perfectly  :)

Thanks dld, but by the time I reduce the amount down to the point where the lines aren't terribly noticeable, the banding isn't being affected either.  It doesn't make any difference if I just attempt to run it on the luminance only either.  I'm starting to wonder if there resolution of my images aren't problematic for PI, although that shouldn't be the case.  I seem to see a lot of odd artifacts that others don't seem to be seeing.

As a quick update, I just ran an ACDNR to give me a quick noise reduction then ran the banding script and it worked.  Looks like it has a problem with too much low level background noise.  I'll have to proceed a bit further in my process, then come back and try to clean up the banding.

Thanks,

Beo

Beo,

I also got 1 pixel lines left, but then I noted that if I crop the image to remove the jagged edges you get after integration, the lines no longer appear. That is crop the image then do the banding removal.

Thanks Mike,

Good point.  I didn't bother cropping the frame as they were short exposures and well aligned, but looking closely there's a one pixel border visible.  After noise reduction that would obviously go away.  I'll go back and see if that makes the difference here.

Thanks,

Beo
