Problem with re-starting PI
« on: 2018 October 07 22:58:47 »
When I first open PI it opens fine.

If I close PI but leave the computer running and then try to start PI again it won't start. This is a recent problem that didn't exist in the past.

I'm running Windows 10 on a HP laptop with a CORE i7 processor.

If the computer is turned off and then back on, PI will start.

As an aside, there is a PI update notification that keeps coming up each time I start PI even though I have asked that it be installed several times. Don't know if this is related in any way.

Any ideas?

Steve,

I have had this issue a few times and I have no idea as to the cause, but what is happening is that when you close PI, some times it keeps running in the background. And because it does not actually close, the updates are not applied.

What you need to do is open up task manager and find the PI instance. Kill it, then re-start PI, No need to re-boot. Re-do the updates and close PI as normal. It should then install the updates and work fine until the next time it decides not to close properly!!

Thank you Mike. That solved the problem!

Funny that the program doesn't completely close down.

Oh well, a simple workaround.

All the best,

Steve

Just to clarify this issue (for others)- and please check this out on your own.
If you close the program by "X" ing out from the window control- it may still remain running in the background. If, however, you close by using the menu File->Exit, it is likely you will not have an issue. This has been the case for the most recent version of PI on my machine for sometime now.
