Sub frame selector help
« on: 2018 May 30 03:09:00 »
Hi, I'm using this guide:

http://www.lightvortexastronomy.com/tutorial-pre-processing-calibrating-and-stacking-images-in-pixinsight.html#Section5

I'm up to the point of Star Alignment after using the sub frame selector. The problem is I don't know which file to use as the reference file. How do I know which file has been selected by the sub frame selector as having the best weights?

Thanks for any help.

I ran the subframeselector script again and found the best frame through that. I presume that was the right thing to do.

Your instincts are correct. You can use the frame that has the best weight, or the most stars. In fact, if you blink your images and toss any clearly inferior ones, then virtually any abundant-star subframe should do. Probably a frame with abundant stars and simultaneously with small FWHM is even a better choice--but probably over-kill.

Hi,

Also look at the SNR value, the higher the better and then at eccentricity (star roundness) and the lower the number the better.

Thanks, nice to know I was on the right track. I've started off the weighting equation in the guide as I'm still a relative beginner, but I will experiment with different ones.
