Challenges loading PI on my laptop
« on: 2018 January 08 16:34:49 »
I copied the pixinsight-license file from my desktop "user" file to my laptop as specified. After attempting to install, it initially gave me an error message stating it could not load on my Windows 97 platform. I updated Windows (service pack), after which it did begin to load, but then gave me a DDL error message. "This program can't start because the api-ms-win-crt-runtime-[1-1-0.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this." I tried a repair, then uninstalled and reinstalled resulting in the same message each time. I did reinstall from the same downloaded file. Any suggestions? Should I try to re-download the original file then reinstall with that after uninstalling the current instance? I am assuming this library file is one that should have been loaded by PI.

Hi,

PixInsight is a 64 bit application and won't run on Windows 97. At least that is my first guess to the root cause of your trouble.

Windows XP is not supported. It will not run let alone install. The attached screen capture if from the PixInsight System Requirement page. http://www.pixinsight.com/sysreq/index.html

Thanks - I tried it on a Windows 7 laptop and oddly, after an initial problem I was able to resolve, I go the same error message at load.
Very weird.

Hi,

First thing to check is if your PC is capable of running 64bit.  So, open "Windows Explorer" right click on the PC and select "Properties"  That should show if the operating system (Windows) is running 64bit or 32bit.

Post back your results and we can assist further.

PI was running fine on my Windows Vista system. Many programs were no longer supporting Vista but many ran O.K. I upgraded the machine to Windows 7, reinstalled PI and now I get the same error message as reported by this OP. Has a cause been identified? I checked that this system (OS) is running 64 bit.

I Googled the error message a got a lot of offers to help. Unfortunatly, most wanted me to download and install a "repair tool". I contacted Symantec and found a link to a MS Windows support message indicating an update is available for several versions of Windows called Universal C Runtime. I installed it and the problem went away.
