Author Topic: After DBE should I reduce green (about 50%) with SCNR before BN and CC or after?  (Read 2038 times)

I'm still fairly new at PI with about 200 hours of usage, but still have so much to learn.

My question is this: After doing a careful DBE should I reduce the overall green in the image with SCNR, say by about 50%, before doing Background Neutralization and Color Calibration, or should I do it after BN and CC? Will I get a more a accurate color calibration by removing some green first or by leaving it there? Any additional advice in this matter?

Thanks,
Rudy

Rudy

I'm just speaking for myself but I don't use SCNR until one of my last steps if needed at all. My reasoning is SCNR removes green and any data removed you can't get back. You might be working with Curves later and stars, a nebula or galaxies just don't look right and it could be because green was removed. If your background has green after color calibration revisit your BN/color calibration and find out why.  This is just the way I process.

Thanks MIke, sounds like very good advice, and yes I do understand that green is a necessary component in many important colours.

Best regards,
