Using PixInsight without a live internet connection?

I took my laptop on a long flight today and thought I’d pass the time getting to know PixInsight (yes, I’m a total newbie to the software)

But my trial version couldn’t seem to load - it was trying to connect to some sort of PixInsight server.

Is it always necessary to have an internet connection to use PixInsight or is this a limitation of the trial version?   I spend a fair amount of time on planes and being able to use the application offline is rather important to me...

An internet connection is only needed for the trial version.

no - a real license is a file on disk so you don't need an internet connection to launch a licensed version of PI.

Here are 2 posting from sometime back discussing the trial license use.

The first posting from 2008 seems to point that the trial version needs an internet connection to function.  I would think this was to make sure the license file could not be pirated about. The PI server would have a listing of IP addresses being used with a particular trial download.

The second posting from 2014 does not mention internet but does say the trial version is only good on one computer at a time. Each time you moved the software to a new computer the user would need to request a reactivation code. I don't know if that code is validated over the internet during the first use.

Don't know if this helps or confuses the issue. I would email PI to find out. You might also try to PM Juan.
