Unable to create a mask
« on: 2018 January 21 19:37:38 »
I can't create a mask with the RangeSelection Tool. I have searched this forum for similar problems, but can't find a solution. I have followed multiple tutorials about processing and think I am doing exactly what they recommend:  Batch PreProcessing>ImageIntegration>Dynamic Crop>Automatic Background Extraction>Background Neutralizaton>and Color Calibration. At this point I use the Histogram Transformation Tool to permanently stretch the image. All works great up to this point, however, when I try to use the RangeSelection tool or Extract the CIEL* Component and drag the side bar onto the ABE image, I only get a clone. I have tried this multiple times both with non-linear images (and even with linear images out of frustration) and can't seem to produce a mask. Is this a bug? Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks.

i think you are saying that you can't apply a mask to your image?

there are bugs in Qt that juan worked pretty hard to overcome, and one side effect is that the drag/drop of process icons and masks has become a little bit difficult. if you are slow and careful, you'll find that you can drag a mask onto another image. the problem is that if during the drag, the bug is triggered, then no matter where you release the mouse, you get a clone. it sounds to me from your description that this is what is happening.

if push comes to shove you can always right (or control-) click an image to bring up the contextual menu and Mask > Select Mask (or clover-M) and pick the name of the mask from the dropdown list.

Hello Rob,

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!!  That was it!  I went over and over my work flow thinking I had to be doing something wrong. You've restored my sanity. If/when the drag/drop bug is fixed please let me know. In the meantime it will be easy enough to use the work-around.

Aloha, Jim

ojisan, dou itashimashite

this problem will probably only be resolved in a full release of pixinsight, because i don't think juan integrates new Qt releases until that time. Qt is a 3rd-party software package that provides the window user interface for PI.

anyway as mentioned if you are careful with the drag and drop it usually works. it sometimes takes me 2 tries, but i don't think i ever have to resort to the menu trick.
