Maximizing size of JPEG outputs
« on: 2009 May 24 13:06:51 »
Dumb question (I am back !! :footinmouth:)
I put 16 bit 50 MB Tiff files (from DSS) into pix...when I try to save my result I wind up with like 2-3 MB JPEG's,which then do not crop well...
What is the secret ? starting with 32 bit input or ??? Obviously I set 100% on the save quality but it seems odd,or is that normal....
thanks

Hi Dave,

If you save JPEG images with 100% quality then a 3 MB file is a very nice result, considering that the original TIFF occupies 50 MB. Usually I'd rather expect something in the range 5 - 10 MB.

What I don't understand is what you mean with "do not crop well" ?

No secret. More quality means a larger size; it's just that simple. Try using 95% or 92% quality instead of 100%. The difference in size can be significant, but the difference in visual quality is usually imperceptible.

well I am not getting 5-10 MB JPEG's for some reason....is it because my tiff file is only 16 bit format ??
