Hi,
I have installed the last available versiĆ³n of PixInsight 1.8.5 Ripley avalable in the downloads section. The installation was OK but when I double-clicked the PI icon the program does not start, my laptop seems to start to do something but then stops and Pixinsight does not start.

My laptop has an Intel Core I5-4200M 2.50 Ghz processor, 4 Gb of RAM and windows 7 professional servipack 1 64-bits.

I have desinstalled and reinstalled PixInsight and tried other options but no solution was found. In one case, a windows error file was generated (see below) and in other case, the program started asking for my activativation code and user but inmediately a new window appeared showing that the program crashed (see attached image).

Please, can you help me?

Thanks

Fernando

Hola Fernando,

This problem cannot be reproduced on our working and testing machines, including Windows 10, 8.1 and 7 SP1. This is a machine-specific issue. I would try on a different machine. The only advice we can offer in these cases is a clean system reinstall, preferably with Windows 10, and excluding all vendor-provided utility software, especially disk and file management utilities. These utilities tend to generate incompatibilities with some critical components of PixInsight.

Sorry for not being able to offer more specific help. If I can't reproduce a nontrivial problem, I have no way to understand and solve it. I am working on a new version of PixInsight that uses Qt 5.10 instead of Qt 5.9. However, I cannot guarantee that these machine-specific problems won't happen, especially on old platforms such as Windows 7.
