Pixel Sample Format?
« on: 2017 September 22 09:36:06 »
I understand the basics behind the pixel sample format value, and from memory of the previous version on PI it seemed to default to 16 bit unsigned for xisf? If selecting something like tif it would tell you '** Warning: Insufficient data storage capabilities: TIFF' if you picked too small a sample format.

In the latest version of PI it feels like the default pixel sample format for an xisf file has become dynamic, some of my images default to 16 bit unsigned but others range as high as 64 bit floating point.

This could of course be nonsense and perhaps the sample format is related to me dabbling with mosaics sometimes of significant size?

What does PI do to determine the default pixel sample format when saving as an xisf? What are the pro/con of picking a smaller/larger sample format and does the console window warn you if you pick an excessively small sample format?

TIA,
