I searched but couldn't find any previous comments on compatibility of the new release with older macOS versions.
For reasons of USB port compatibility with some of my imaging hardware, I'm stuck with Mavericks. I've been using PI V1.8.4 (1199) successfully on this machine (iMac Late 2009 running macOS Mavericks 10.9.5) up until this afternoon, when I tossed it in the Trash to install the recently released V1.8.5 Ripley. I downloaded and used the Mac .pkg installer to recreate the Pixinsight folder in Applications, and the installation completed normally.
The new version crashes on launch. I power cycled the iMac and tried again, but got the same result.
I understand your team no longer tests against Mavericks, so this day wasn't unexpected, and I'm not complaining. I'm just reporting the crash for the benefit of anyone else in the same boat as me. Its sad to see technology move on some times, and leave you behind.
Anyway, I'll reinstall PI 1.8.4 for now while I consider alternatives. Meanwhile, any suggestions are appreciated.
