PCL Win32 System Exception
« on: 2017 August 27 13:42:23 »
Hello,

I'm getting the following error when running the Star Alignment Process:

PCL Win32 System Exception
At address 00007FFCC0099E08 with exception code C0000005 :
Access violation: invalid memory read operation at address FFFFCCDA92215050

Per the other posts regarding this type of issue, I tried unchecking automated UI scaling in global preferences with no luck.  I also updated to the very latest version of PI (1.8.5) and still get the issue.  I have two different Dell laptops (different models) running Windows 10 and still have the same issue, so I'm stuck.  Does anyone have any suggestions for me to try?

p.s., I've processed quite a few pictures with PI in the past with the same laptop and OS and never had this issue.  It popped up last January out of the blue.  I walked away from it for quite a while but am now back at it hoping to finish processing my last effort (I don't image anymore but have this last one unfinished project lingering out there).

Tim

This cannot be reproduced on any platform with our data sets, neither with version 1.8.4 nor with 1.8.5. Can you upload a set of images where this problem can be reproduced?

Hi - I uploaded the five images that I'm trying to align with the Star Alignment process here.  Thanks for any help.

Hi Tim,

Thank you so much for uploading the image. This bug is now fixed with an update I've just released for all platforms.

The problem was being caused by extremely low or insignificant pixel values in combination with very specific structural image properties. In the case of this image, there is a single pixel at coordinates X=6753 Y=4263 with a value around 10-10, which is obviously insignificant for a 32-bit floating point image. This single pixel was fooling our star detection routines in this particular image. As I've said, this problem is now completely fixed. Thank you, and sorry for the inconvenience.

Juan,

You appear to have been sitting on this problem for about 11 hours - your response to bug-fixes needs to be a little less 'tardy' (even though you will no doubt claim to have been asleep some of that time).

Other software packages, would have taken 11 months to react, and would then have offered a solution by way of a chargeable upgrade - surely you could at least strive to reach their standard  ;)
