MaskGen script
« on: 2019 June 22 11:40:21 »
I've tried running the MaskGen script, but, without success. I just get an error message, and, the MaskGen window never opens.

Anyone know where I can find some instructions on how to use this script?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Steve,

MaskGen creates a star mask based on astrometric data.

You need to have a (ImageSolver) solved image open in the workspace so that the script can download and identify the stars in the image.

Cheers

Thanks for the response Paul.

I ran the ImageSolver script on my open image. I then attempted to run the MaskGen script, but, get the error message shown in the attachment.

Any ideas?

The method ImageWindow.astrometricSolution() is quite new. Steve, are you using an old version of PI?

There are many "1.8" versions. I don't remember when ImageWindow.astrometricSolution was first introduced, but I would recommend to use the latest version (1.8.6).

Thanks all - I'm running 8.5, so, now I need to remember how to update to version 8.6.

Sigh ...

Getting older isn't fun.

With help from Andres and Juan I now have 1.8.6.1473 up and running. Wooo Hooo!!!

However, I had to reestablish my Resources/Updates/Manage Repositories link to get the Hartmut Bornemann's wonderful scripts back.

With all the above completed, MaskGen now works perfectly. This is a wonderful script that generates amazing starmasks.

Thanks all for the help.

Hi Steve,

I've found this topic a few minutes ago.

As Andres wrote, the astrometry was "re-invented" with the latest updates of PixInsight. The new methods exposed with ImageWindow object are today, what I was looking for since long. Thanks to Andres and the team.

In some cases, distortion can be a problem. When you see star centers not matching the mask, tweek your ImageSolver with higher magnitudes (i.e 14..17). This takes more time but should give you better results.

If you have doubts on non-masked stars, please verify the positions with Simbad and send me the coordinates.

Regards

Hartmut

Thanks Hartmut - And thank you for sharing all of your wonderful scripts. They make life so much easier!

If I find troublesome stars I will let you know. I will keep in mind your hint about using higher magnitude stars if distortion is a problem.
